  Adams Tight Lies Fairway Woods
SID Rating :
**** 4/5!
Review: 12/10/2002

I've had the Tight Lies woods in my bag for ages. They're simple performers and some folks will no doubt be put off by their upside-down design and low profile heads but not me.

A view of the Adams underside - wierd shape huh?

I find the way they sit low behind the ball actually adds confidence rather than lessens. The only problem I ever have is if the ball is in longish or fluffy grass the ball can pop straight up if you go under the ball. You'd probably not get the same problem with a more traditional deep-faced wood. Howeverm, a deeper face might get stuck in the grass as well so there's pros and cons to the low profile head.

I suppose if you were to pick fault with the Adams Tight Lies clubs you might say why no alignment aid on top of the club, but that ain't no big criticism I suppose. I don't think the Tight Lies II has an alignment aid on the head and I'm sure Adams' techies will have researched thoroughly before deciding against having an aid so you'd have to assume I'm being picky and that the vast majority of golfers aren't bothered at all.

Summary

According to the Golf Market Research Institute, this club was America's number one selling fairway wood in it's day. It's easy to see why, it gets the ball up and flying effortlessly and although it's a low-profile design seems to be pretty forgiving even if you don't catch it right out of the middle. Please note that this model has been superceded by Tight Lies 2 and Tight Lies GT range. For more information go to www.adamsgolf.com
