DCI962 Irons Review:

4/5! Good
enough for Duval, Good enough for Sid!
Guess who got lucky again
with the local rag?!? Picked up a set of
these Titleist beauties for just ninety
of your finest pounds sterling. Like the
Mizuno Pro irons they're aimed at the
better player but hey, that's what I'm
aspiring to be! Actually, compared to the
Mizuno's these irons are like Callaway
Big Bertha they're just so much easier to
hit!
Made from soft 431
Stainless Steel they are perimeter
weighted but with the weight biased
towards the heel of the club. This is
supposed to be to cover for the good
players' bad shot which is apparently
lower on the club face. I think this sort
of weighting has also been used to allow
higher handicappers to close the clubface
more easily - didn't Hippo do this with
their Impact Irons?
The grooves are a little
closer together than a lot of irons I've
used and apparently they're V-grooves. My
limited experience with them (three
rounds) allows me to categorically state
this : they impart more spin on the ball
than any other irons I've used. This
might be a little biased as the greens
have been wet of late but it's still a
pleasure to see the ball stop within a
few feet!
These irons feature
something called a triple-grind sole
design. Which relieves ground
interference and maximises clubhead speed
- which is nice. Hit the ground two
inches behind the ball and it's still a
fat shot though! - no relief of ground
interference on those shots!
There's only one thing I
don't like about the 962s and that's the
wedges they're plain ugly. So I'll be
sticking with the Mizuno wedges for the
time being.

Summary
Golf Pride
Titleist Full Cord Grips
True Temper
Dynamic Golf Stiff Steel Shafts
Traditional Size
431 Stainless Steel Clubheads
Reduced Offset (some's
good though!)
Thin Topline
Triple Grind Sole
I likes 'em. I
can hit them a damn site easier than the
Mizunos but they don't sound as sweet.
