  Mizuno Pro Sand Wedge
Reviwed 14/10/2002
SID Rating :
**** 4/5

I can't compare the Mizuno to other top wedges such as the Snake Eyes and Cleveland models as I've never tried 'em, however I'd say it's a pretty good wedge in my limited experience.

One thing that's true of all sand wedges I guess is that you've got to be careful with the lie you've got when you play from the fairway with it. The bounce on the sole means that anything less than a perfect fairway lie and you end up scuffing the ball along the ground - not pretty.

My wedge is fitted with a stiff Rifle shaft and a Lambkin Crossline grip (which I have on all my irons - Ashbourne's club pro Andrew Smith fits 'em for £4 a club - money well spent). From the sand it works beautifully, from the fairway I can open it up and throw the ball up high like a sand wedge - it's flexible!

Summary:

A simple sand-wedge that does what it's supposed to - gets the ball out of the sand with no fuss. Soft forged steel face allows buttery high floaters from the fairway too but check the lie won't you?
